Marco Antonio Rubio (44-4, 38KOs) is looking to make it two in a row since being stopped last February by WBC/WBO middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik. He returned in October and put away Jose Berrio in one. He comes back on January 16 against Rigoberto Alvarez (23-1, 17KOs) at the Auditorio Centenario in Torreon, Coahuila de Zaragoza in Mexico.
Rubio has been in some wars but he is still a young fighter. He looks a lot older but he doesn't even turn 30 until June. Alvarez, regarded as the prospect in this fight, is actually two years older at age 31 [turns 32 on 1/20]. Don't let Alvarez's record fool you. Two fights ago he was dropped in the first and lost a twelve round decision to 25-14 William Gare. That fight was at super middleweight. He seems to bounce between 160 and 168. The WBC Latino middleweight title will be at stake.
