Bell Centre, Monteal - Marco Antonio Rubio (50-5-1, 43KOs) shocked previously undefeated David Lemieux (25-1, 24KOs) with a seventh round stoppage in a WBC middleweight eliminator.
At the halfway point of the first round, Lemieux exploded and let his hands go. He stunned Rubio and pounded on him until the bell. Rubio spent the next four rounds blocking and throwing a lazy jab. Lemieux was throwing every punch with knockout intentions. In the sixth, Rubio came alive and started landing big shots of his own, opened up Lemieux's nose and had the unbeaten boxer backing up. In the seventh, Rubio landed a huge right hand that sent Lemieux down. Rubio began to pound on him and Lemieux's trainer jumped in to stop the fight.
NABA super featherweight champion Arash Usmanee (12-0, 6KOs) won an eight round unanimous decision over Aldo Valtierra (25-14, 13KOs). Valtierra lost a point for hitting behind the head. The scores were 80-71, 79-72 and 79-72.
A battle of super middleweights saw Adonis Stevenson (14-1, 11KOs) crush Derek Edwards (25-2, 13KOs) in the third round of an NABA super middleweight title fight. Stevenson badly hurt Edwards in the second round and sent him down twice. One of the punches appeared to break Edwards' nose. In the third, Stevenson dropped Edwards down hard for a third time and the fight was waved off.
