Mexico's Marco Antonio Rubio says that he finds it hard to believe that a world champion is avoid challengers who have the necessary merits to fight for the world title. Rubio is ranked as the official challenger to the title of WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., who has no interest in the fight. Rubio predicts that Chavez will face a very weak opponent in September and doesn't believe the young Mexican has any care for his title reign. Rubio won a final eliminator in April by traveling to Montreal to defeat unbeaten David Lemieux.
"I agree and understand that a boxer's career is short and people are there to take care of the fighters, but what I think is that Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., if he continues fighting as champion, it's better to drop the championship if he's not ready to face good opponents," Rubio said.
"Chávez was appointed as the official challenger [to the title] without winning a qualifier, unlike the merits I achieved. I went to the Canadian's backyard, who was unbeaten (25-0, 24 KOs), and the favorite to beat me - and I won. I sense that Junior will continue his reign without caring, and almost certainly his first defense will be against a fighter who is not ranked and then magically he becomes ranked overnight to become a challenger."
