JUANITO Rubillar unanimously outpointed veteran Acasio Simbajon in the main event of Gabriel Elorde Jr.’s “Bakbakan sa San Dionisio” card, Sunday night at San Dionisio, Paranaque City.

The victory by Rubillar has solidified his position as the top ranked contender of his compatriot and current World Boxing Council (WBC) light flyweight champion Brian “Filipino-Hawaiian Punch” Viloria.

Simbajon, one of only eight boxers who went the distance with Manny Pacquiao, pushed Rubillar, 28, to the limit in the 10-round fight at the San Dionisio Gym.

Simbajon, 33, absorbed Rubillar’s numerous flurries of combinations and power punches as he showed little resistance.

Judges Alex Villacampa and Ramon Flores scored it 99-92. The third judge Narciso Martinez had it a shutout 100-90 - also for Rubillar who improved his record to 36-9-7 with 14 knockouts.

Flores and Villacampa saw the opening round 10-10 even on a ten-point must system scoring before giving Sambajon a round each in the third and 10th, respectively.

"He’s a tough nut to crack,” said Rubillar, who also won by the same fashion in the rematch with Simbajon on April 29 after they fought to a technical draw in July 2004. “But I’m glad to win a near shutout decision. I am ready to fight for another WBC world title.”

On the undercard of the bill covered by “Kamao sa Kamao” boxing program for its 5-6 pm time slot every Sunday over NBN Channel 4 undefeated boxers, Rey Labao, Benny Palen, Noel Basto, Romeo Lucenara, Hilsan Berba and Raymond Sermona have continued their winning ways.

Minimumweight Marlo Villamor ( 5-4-1, 2 KOs) and light flyweight RJ Iringan (2-1, 2 KOs) were also victorious against debutant Jun Gumatay (0-1) and Noah Isidro (0-2), respectively.

Villamor earned a unanimous decision with judges’ scored 39-37, 38-36 and 39-37, while Iringan stopped Isidro in the third round.

Labao, a 5-foot-7 southpaw, earned a unanimous decision win against the game Felix Manalansan (6-11-1, 1 KO) in an 8-round fight to improve his stock to 7-0, 4 KOs. Judges saw it an identical 79-72 decision all for Labao.

Teenage super featherweight fighter Palen made Ruel Santos (0-3-1) in a rematch his third straight knockout victim in as many starts. Palen’s one-two combinations to the body sent Santos on his knees.

The hapless native of Bulacan quit on his rubbery legs at 1:38 of the 2nd round. Santos’ corner simultaneously thrown the towel in the center of the ring to prevent him to absorbed punishments before referee Virgilio Abainza responded to stop the fight.

Basto (1-0-1, 1 KO), a superbantam southpaw from Daet in Camarines Norte, forced the exhausted Ian Dela Peña (0-3) to quit at 1:56 of the 4th stanza.

Lucenara (2-0, 1 KO) dispatched Edward Hanap, who surrendered when was hardly able to breath from a badly bleeding nose, at 2:53 of the third.

The 17-year old Berba (1-0, 1 KO), a 5-7 southpaw from Cavite, dominated newcomer Elmer Marcelino. The judges scored the bout with identical 39-37.

Sermona (1-0-1, 2 KOs) scored two knockdowns when he floored another neophyte Ramil Dumpang in the first round and finally scored a TKO win at 1:25 of the second.
