World rated light flyweight Juanito Rubillar is eyeing a rematch with former interim champion Wandee Singwancha of Thailand who beat him in a controversial decision last July 18 in Bangkok but lost the interim title after failing to make the weight for his title defense against Japan’s Munetsugu Kkayo.

Wandee who unsuccessfully tried three times to make the 108 pound limit finally gave up and lost his title on the scales. However, the Thai fighter hammered out a unanimous decision against Kayo, the former OPBF champion with two judges having Wandee the winner 116-111 and a third judge scoring it 114-113 also for the Thai.

If the southpaw Kayo won he would have been crowned interim champion but since he lost the title remains vacant opening up the possibility for Rubillar to earn a rematch with Wandee to settle the controversy over their first fight.

Rubillar’s manager Gabriel “Bebot” Elorde said he wanted Rubillar to concentrate on his fight against Indonesian champion Irvan Ogah this Friday in Trece Martires City in an exciting fight card wholeheartedly supported by Mayor Melencio Sagun Jr before looking ahead at a rematch with Wandee.

Elorde said the fight with Wandee was close but said he believes Rubillar should have won the decision.

The Rubillar-Ogah OPBF title fight sponsored by Tanduay, the No.1 Rhum will be telecast on Sunday at 1 p.m. on Viva Sports top rated weekly boxing show “The Main Event” over RPN 9 and replayed on the cable channel Viva Prime.
