Ruben Guerrero, father and trainer of former champion Robert "The Ghost" Guerrero (31-2-1, 18KOs), says his son has no problem fighting Keith "One Time" Thurman (23-0, 21KOs) in the future.
Golden Boy Promotions had tried to match them last December, but Guerrero took a pass on the fight. Both Robert and Ruben were unhappy with the financial terms that Golden Boy put on the table for a fight with Thurman.
"Robert would fight that guy. Robert would fight anybody, but not for what they were offering. If the right offer is on the table Robert will fight anybody. Thurman is a good fighter, but he never faced anybody that can fight like Robert. He never beat anybody with the experience of Robert. We want the big fights. We want to fight guys who will stand there and fight and not run. If the right deal is there, we'll fight anyone," Ruben said.
Guerrero returns to action later tonight at the StubHub Center in Carson against Yoshihiro Kamegai of Japan.
