The World Boxing Council has proposed the staging of a Philippines vs Mexico light flyweight tournament which would end in a title eliminator for the right to challenge WBC’s  world champion Edgar Sosa.

WBC secretary general Mauricio Sulaiman has contacted boxing managers and promoters Gabriel “Bebot” Elorde Jr and Aljoe Jaro proposing that the top four contenders face-off in a mini tournament where four-time world title challenger Juanito Rubillar (46-11-7, 22 KO's), who is ranked No. 3, takes on Adrian "El Confesor" Hernandez (14-1-1, 11 KO's) the top ranked contender, and Sonny Boy Jaro (29-7-5, 18 KO's) who is rated No. 4,  who also challenged for the world title, but lost, would face former champion Omar Nino Romero (27-3-1, 11 KO's) who is ranked No.2.

Sulaiman said the government of the tourist resort city of Cancun was interested in staging a good fight card and it was his father, Don Jose Sulaiman who proposed the series to eventually find a title challenger to Sosa.

Under the proposal the winners of the two RP-Mexico clashes will meet in a showdown to find the mandatory challemger to the world champion.

Sulaiman mentioned, correctly, that the WBC had “strongly supported” the Philippines and both Elorde and Aljoe Jaro in 2008.

Sulaiman said Hernandez “does not need to take part in this tournament but is wiolling to do so” even as he expressed the hope that both Elorde and Jaro agree to take part in the tournament where each of the F ilipino fighters would be paid a purse of $8,000 with 6 roundtrip airline tickets for the whole group and ten days stay in a first class hotel in Cancuin.

Sulaiman also offered the Philippine rights to Elorde and Aljoe Jaro. He said that in addition the Mexican promoter would be willing to include a Filipino flyweight in a bout against WBC No. 14 ranked Wilber Ulcab.
