IBO cruiserweight champion Danny Green was not a "flavor of the week" opponent for Roy Jones Jr.

Green defends his title against Jones on December 2 at Acer Arena in Australia. According to Jones' manager, McGee Wright, Green had been on their radar for a potential bout for quite some time. Months before there were any talks with Green's camp, Jones and his team had been planning out their course of action in 2009 and Green's name was near the top of the list.

"Actually Danny Green was one of the guys that was on our radar, Danny didn't know it, but we were planning this out even before we spoke to them," Wright told AAP.

"He was one of five or six names that came up that we had pretty much pencilled in and said `what about this guy?' and projected things six months to a year down the road. He was one of the names that came up. We had a situation where we made contact with their team and they were interested and here we are."

Green's huge following in Australia got him the fight. There was enough money involved to make Jones travel across the ocean; accepting a fight outside of the United States for the first time in his 20-year career.

"Green has a good following, he has a good name, he's an icon in his country. He's in Roy's weight class, he's a world class athlete and an extremely good fighter," Wright said.
