On December 2 in Australia, Roy Jones Jr. will look to pull off a history making win when he takes on Danny Green for the IBO cruiserweight title at Acer Arena. Jones has won titles at middleweight, super middleweight, light heavyweight and heavyweight. Jones has never fought or won any titles at cruiserweight. Jones says a win over Green will count as his fifth world title in his fifth weight division. Historians and critics will argue over that fact. Green is not the best fighter at cruiser and the IBO is still behind, recognition wise, the WBC, WBO, IBF and WBA.
"Cruiserweight is not a division I've really been interested in, but seeing as it is there, why not?" Jones told AFP. "It's the only big weight division I haven't won a title in, and it is right there close by within reach. I'll do it, get it done and put it on the resume. Then I will move on to Hopkins."
Jones has a lot riding on the fight. A rematch is already set with Bernard Hopkins for next March in Las Vegas. He expects Green to come on strong in the fight, but he doesn't think the Australian fighter has the skills to win.
"Danny's a strong guy, he's a very tough guy, he's going to put a lot of pressure on me," Jones said. "He's going to try and wear me down because I'm 40 and he's 36, so he's going to think he can wear me down, but I'm ready for that."
"The foot and hand speed will be key to my victory. I can win it powerfully, I can win it boxing, I can win it either way, I'm just a better fighter."
