According to heavyweight Fres Oquendo, negotiations are taking place for a rematch with former heavyweight champion Oliver McCall. Oquendo says the rematch is going to take place on a March 11 card in Memphis, which is going to feature Roy Jones Jr. in the main event.
"We are negotiating with McCall's people to give me a rematch," said the heavyweight based in Chicago with a record of 32-7 with 21 knockouts.
However, McCall, who won a controversial split decision over Oquendo on December 7, has a pending legal issue which may destroy the rematch. He was arrested two days after his victory in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, for possession of marijuana and violation of a municipal ordinance. The incident could possibly result in the revocation of his probation.
"I hope everything is resolved and we can fight on that date. This time I'm going to knock him out," said Oquendo.
