The MGM Grand in Las Vegas will become a war-zone on Saturday night, Miguel Cotto (32-0, 26 KOs) of Caguas, Puerto Rico will defend his WBA welterweight title against his most dangerous opponent to date, former champion Antonio Margarito (36-5, 26 KOs) of Tijuana, Mexico. The next generation of the classic Puerto Rico vs. Mexico rivalry.
The careers of both fighters will come down to this fight and the pressure is heavy. You can always predict a memorable bout when the experts call it the "fight of the year" before the actual fight takes place. Because both fighters are known for their destructive styles that leave their opponents in shambles, there should be a lot of drama when both boxers decide to stand their ground and trade power-punches.
Margarito has dedicated the fight to his brother who passed away many years ago, while Cotto promises to bring the belt back to Puerto Rico. A potential December fight with Oscar De La Hoya hangs in the balance for Cotto. A win over Cotto would give Margarito the career defining fight that he's always wanted. Cotto has more tricks in the bag; Margarito is the bigger man with the bigger chin. A lot of questions will be answered when the fight is over and the smoke clears.
