It was almost the fight that never was. After witnessing a trilogy bout go up in smoke after his opponent Jose Luis Castillo was unable to make weight, Corrales (40-3, 33 KOs) weighed in at 5 pounds above the weight limit of 135-pounds. Stripped of the title on the scale, the fight is now a one way championship bout. Joel Casamayor (33-3-1, 21 KOs) will become the champion if he wins, or the title becomes vacant if Corrales prevails.

Lucky for Corrales, Casamayor agreed to go forward with the bout that place in the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. Casamayor is said to be getting half of the $200,000 dollars the Nevada State Athletic Commission fined Corrales for not making weight. Of course the Commission ordered another weigh-in to take place several hours prior to the fight. Both fighters are not able to weigh any higher than the welterweight limit of 147-pounds.

Casamayor had little-to-no choice, but to accept the bout with Corrales. It could be the last big fight that the 35-year-old Olympic gold medalist from Cuba receives for quite some time. The WBC blessed Casamayor with the ability to fight for the title in his next fight if he loses the bout and the belt is officially declared vacant.
