The HBO Boxing After Dark doubleheader will feature two fighters with the physical abilities to help rebuild Top Rank. After several dissapointments in 2006, including Hasim Rahman being stopped by Oleg Maskaev and Erik Morales knocked out twice, Top Rank like several other promotional firms is looking to rebuild with new face.
In the main event, former two division champion Jorge Arce (45-3-1, 35 KOs) from Los Mochis, Mexico takes on Julio Ler (23-1, 14 Kos) from Cordoba, Argentina in a scheduled 12-round super featherweight contest. Arce, considered one of the more exciting fighters in the sport is returning to the ring after a recent KO victory over Hawk Makepula seen on HBO in September. Ler, whose only loss came at the hands of Alexander Munoz, is making his first ring appearance in the United States.
In the opening contest, the undefeated punching machine, Kelly Pavlik (29-0, 26 KOs) from Youngstown, OH, will face off with Jose Luis Zertuche (19-3-2, 14 KOs) out of Leon, Mexico. Pavlik is looked upon as the next middleweight star, while Zertuche is a brawler custom made for his fighting style.
