As previously reported, former champion Rosendo Alvarez (37-3-2, 24KOs) has been training in California for the last six months to prepare for a planned comeback. Alvarez, inactive since being knocked out by Jorge Arce in 2006, had previously revealed that he accepted an offer to face top bantamweight contender Eric Morel (45-2, 23KOs) on December 3rd at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. The card is a Showtime televised bantamweight doubleheader with Chemito Moreno defending the WBA belt against Vic Darchinyan and Abner Mares defending the IBF crown against Joseph Agbeko.
The California State Athletic Commission has given Alvarez permission to box, but the former champ is going to take it easy. Rethinking his decision to come off lengthy layoff against a tough opponent like Morel, Alvarez will instead take on a much easier opponent. No date has been sent but Alvarez, 41, might return on December 2nd, where his student Randy Caballero takes the main event stage at Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, California.
