Francisco "Chiquita" Rosas is beaming with confidence as he prepares to fly out this weekend to Tokyo, Japan for his rematch with Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez for the vacant interim-junior flyweight title of the WBA. The fight will happen on a huge card taking place on October 24. Rosas replaces Juan Carlos Reveco, who withdrew to have emergency surgery to remove kidney stones.
He will be be accompanied by his coach Ruben Lira and brother/pro boxer Noe Rosas, who is coming along to help with sparring.
Lira said Rosas "has already fought against Gonzalez and I see possibilities to win the rematch. Chocolatito is an excellent fighter, he is like a small Argüello. Francisco has the experience and know that maybe this, being his third world title shot, is the charm."
"He spent 20 days in Japan to assist in sparring with the Kameda brothers, Daiki and Koki, and that will help a lot. He's worked hard in the mornings when I take him to run at the track in Ocotal. On Friday we will close the sparring stage of the training and next week we will give priority to speed. Rosas is focused. I see a lot of motivation and willingness to do things."
