MGM Grand at Foxwoods Resort, Mashantucket, Connecticut - Danny O’Connor (21-1, 7 knockouts) won a unanimous decision against Hector Munoz (21-11-1 14 knockouts) by three scores of 79-73 in a junior middleweight bout in the final undercard result before the start of the HBO televised fights. O’Connor was the busier fighter, able to out-land Munoz and scoring early with work to the body.
The former amateur standout Luis Rosa (14-0, 6 knockouts) seemed to have his hands full with the journeyman Jose Angel Beranza (36-27-2, 28 knockouts) but still managed to score a decisive unanimous decision in the eyes of the judges to remain undefeated by three scores of 79-72. While Rosa had the quicker hands and threw more punches, Beranza never seemed deterred and looked to land as much as he took. Still, Rosa impressed with his strong work-rate and good conditioning and Beranza seemed to tire down the stretch of the eight-round super bantamweight bout, allowing Rosa to press the advantage.
Dusty Harrison won a workman-like six-round unanimous decision against the tough Ben Ankray, who stalked Harrison around the ring but didn’t seem to land enough clean punches to sway the judges on the first show of the undercard of Gennady Golovkin and Matthew Macklin from Foxwood Resort and Casino in Mashantucket, CT. Meanwhile, Harrison seemed to control the action for most of the welterweight bout as he easily moved around the ring, landing counters. All three judges scored the bout 60-54, 60-54, 59-55 for Harrison (Washington, D.C.) who improved to 14-0 with seven knockouts while Ankrah (Chicago, IL) dropped to .500 at 15-15 with six knockouts.
