Trainer Ronnie Shields informed BoxingScene.com that he would never allow his two fighters, Erislandy Lara and Jermall Charlo, to face each other in the ring.

Shields was reacting to a recent story on BoxingScene.com, where Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer expressed his interest in matching Lara (19-1-2, 12KOs), the WBA's 'regular junior middleweight champion, in a unification fight against the winner of this Saturday's clash between IBF junior middleweight champion Carlos Molina (22-5-2, 6KOs) and Charlo (17-0, 13KOs).

Molina-Charlo will be part of the undercard to the Canelo-Angulo Showtime Pay-Per-View at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Due to Molina's recent incarceration for some outstanding warrants, and an immigration issue, the fight is in jeopardy if Molina is not released in time for Friday's weigh-in.

If the fight goes forward and Charlo captures the IBF title, a unification with Lara will not be possible - says Shields, who is very close with both boxers. If there was a lot of money on the table for both fighters, Shields would "not stand in their way." But since the fight is not really worth a lot of money, at the moment, he doesn't see any reason to have them fight each other.

"No way in the world would that happen. Lara and him are friends, they spar together all the time. They are with me all the time. We are not talking about a lot of money. It don't make sense [for them to fight]," Shields told BoxingScene.com.
