On Friday night super middleweight prospect Ronald Akeem Ellis (9-0) will have an audition on the latest Iron Mike Productions card. Ellis will face Julio Garcia (6-6) at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Tulsa, Okla.
The 25-year-old Ellis said that he has trained hard for the fight and said that he doesn't feel any pressure auditioning for a potential promotional deal.
"I have been working hard in the gym so I feel like I should be ready for whatever my opponent brings and I will adapt as I go. We will see what happens," said Ellis. "I don't feel any pressure. It is just another day in the office. I just gotta do what I gotta do and get the job done. There is no pressure at all although (a deal) is what I am hoping for but I have been there before. I have been with Top Rank."
Ellis has been a professional since early 2011 but his career has had a series of delays and restarts. He said that he has grown from his mistakes and feels that he will be stronger and more mature because of them.
"I think I should have at least twice as many fights as I have but I have had some setbacks. First of all with the Top Rank situation I was with them and I failed a drug test for marijuana a couple of years back and then when I was coming back I tore my elbow and I had to get surgery and take another 6 months off. There were a few setbacks but I am older and more mature and all of those things are behind me. They are gone and in the past so I can just look forward, " said Ellis.
The super middleweight division is loaded with the likes of Andre Ward, Carl Froch, Mikel Kessler, James DeGale, Andre Dirrell and many other great fighters but Ellis is confident that he will be ready to compete with them sooner rather than later.
"It is a tough division. It is stacked but I feel with my talent and as I mature and get more rounds and get more comfortable I feel I can hang with those guys in the near future," Ellis told BoxingScene.com
