The hard-hitting Romero Duno has a new opponent for his homecoming fight on June 10 at the Robinsons Mall Atrium in General Santos City
Duno will be challenged by Jason Tinampay in the free-to-the-public card dubbed as “Brawl at the Mall: The Homecoming.”
Duno, who is off to a 13-1 (win-loss) start highlighted by 12 knockout victories, was supposed to face Jovany Rota for his first fight since scoring a sensational second-round knockout victory over the erstwhile unbeaten Christian Gonzalez last March 10 at the Belasco Theatre in Los Angeles, California.
But Duno's handler, Jim Claude Manangquil, chief executive officer (CEO) of the Sanman Promotions, wanted to give Duno a tougher test and replaced Rota with Tinampay.
The Bohol-native Tinampay sports an 8W-4L-1D record with seven of his victories coming by way of knockout.
Duno, whose win over Gonzalez netted him the WBC Youth Intercontinental lightweight title, will fly to the United States after the June 10 card as he had been signed by the Golden Boy Promotions.
“The June 10 card will be Duno’s last fight in the Philippines as he will he already start his campaign in the US under his US promoter Golden Boy Promotions,” said Manangquil.
Rota (9W-10L, 6KOs), on the other hand, will instead face Rimar Metuda (10W-7L-O, 5KOs) in one of the undercard fights.
The card will also pit Aston Palicte (22W-2L-0D,18KOs) versus John Mark Apolinario (18W-8L-3D,4KOs); Markquil Salvana (12W-3L-0D, 6KOs) against Alvin Bais (15W-8L-1D, 4KOs); and Muhamad Farkhan (3W-0L-0D, 3KOs) versus Marlon Alta (12W-7L-0D, 9KOs).
Spicing up the boxing extravaganza are four-rounder battles featuring Dave Apolinario vs. Prince Canonero; Mark Antonio vs. Rusty Padua; Garren Diagan vs. Ryan Makiputen; Jagear Bereno vs. Rudy Salaton; Ar-jay Recopelacion vs. Rio Golipatan; Yoben Lementillo vs. Mark Erick Menor; and Jayson Francisco vs. Elizer Ambon.
