Contrary to various reports, Amir Khan (15-0, 12KOs) will not be facing EBU champion Yuri Romanov on Feb. 2 at the ExCel Arena in London. Instead, promoter Frank Warren revealed that Khan will take on Danish Martin Kristjansen (19-1-3, 5KOs), promoted by Morgens Palle, for the Vacant WBO Intercontinental lightweight title.

Kristjansen fought to a draw with Stefano Zoff and scored a win over unbeaten prospect Geir Inge Jorgensen. Warren will apply to the WBO to make the fight an eliminator for a world title bout.

"This is another step up for Amir in his explosive career. Kirstjansen is world ranked and will give him plenty to think about. He has only just turned 21 years old but he looked absolutely sensational in demolishing an experienced former champion in Graham Earl. Amir is making such quick progress in his career that I will sending a letter to the WBO with the aim of making this fight as an eliminator for the world title," Warren said.
