WBO super featherweight champion Roman "Rocky" Martinez has reached an agreement to stage his mandatory defense of the title against Ricky Burns in the challenger's country on September 4 at the Kelvin Hall in Glasgow, Scotland.
Martinez was against going to Scotland and at first was pushing his promoters Puerto Rico Best Boxing to send the fight to a purse bid. After going over the numbers, the money was bigger to take the fight on Scotland and he changed his mind. He tells Reymund Colon that he can't allow the fight to be decided by judges. Martinez will do everything he can to knock Burns out before the final bell. He thinks the judges will side with Burns if the fight heads to a decision.
"We decided to accept the deal to go there because if he would have went to a purse bud, we would have made less. I have no choice but I to go there but I'm training super strong because we will knock him out. I would have loved to defend before my people but I will return with the title," Martinez said.
"I'm coming to knock him out. I will win by knockout. He's going to run but we are prepared for everything. I am very hungry. I have to knock him out because if it goes to a decision, they will give it to him."
