Earlier today in Merida, Mexico - Max Boxing and Zanfer Promotions officially announced the March 12th event which features WBO super featherweight champion Roman 'Rocky' Martinez making a mandatory defense of his title against Miguel 'Scorpion' Berchelt.
The fight will take place at the domed stadium Poliforum Zamna. TV Azteca will handle the broadcast in Mexico and beIN Sports will carry the fight internationally.
Zanfer won the recent purse bid to acquire the promotional rights to the fight. There was some controversy, because Martinez's promoter was trying to finalize a trilogy fight with Orlando Salido, but the WBO made a ruling that forced Martinez to first proceed with his mandatory obligation.
This will be the biggest fight in the career of Berchelt, who turned pro in 2010. The young Mexican puncher has a record of 28 wins, 25 by knockout, and one defeat in a total of 30 fights.
Martinez (29 wins, 17 inside the distance with two defeats and three draws) is returning for the first time since the twelve round draw against Salido last September on the Floyd Mayweather-Andre Berto undercard in Las Vegas.
Also as part of the card, flyweight Junior Granados will be showcased. Granados has a record of 19 fights with 14 wins, eight of them knockout, four defeats and a draw - going up against former world champion Giovani Segura, who has 37 fights on his record, 32 of which he won and 28 by knockout, four defeats and one draw. Segura is back for the first time since the 2014 TKO defeat to WBA/WBO flyweight champion Juan Francisco Estrada.
Lightweight prospect Eduardo "Lalo" Torres (19-0, 11 KOs) will appear in action as well.
