At the Coliseo Jose Miguel Agrelot in Hato Rey, Puerto Rico, super featherweight prospect Roman "Rocky" Martinez (21-0-1, 12KOs) won a hard fought ten-round decision over Walter Estrada (34-8, 23KOs). The scores were 98-89, 98-89 and 97-90. Martinez landed the much harder punches and outboxed his opponent. Martinez, the number one ranked contender, is heading on route to a 2009 title shot with WBO champion Nicky Cook.
Former champion Eric Morel (40-2, 21KOs) stopped Ricardo Vargas (39-14-3, 14KOs) in 1:14 of the first round of a bantamweight contest. Morel was very impressive with blowing out Vargas to set himself up for mandatory title shot in 2009 against WBO champion Gerry Penalosa.
