Carlos Blandon, manager of WBC flyweight champion Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzalez (45-0, 38KOs), says his boxer would love to get in the ring with Carlos Cuadras (35-0-1, 27KOs), who holds the WBC title at super flyweight.
But Blandon says there have not been official negotiations as of yet to make that fight happen. They are reviewing their options for a potential return in September, but Cuadras is at the top of the list.
Some of the other options for Gonzalez include Johnriel Casimero, John 'Churritos 'Hernandez and Naoya Inoue.
Cuadras and Gonzalez are both handled by promoter Mr. Honda of Teiken Promotions.
"The team would love to fight with Carlos Cuadras, but nothing has been confirmed about anything. There is no date or opponent," Blandon told ESPN Deportes. "We have him in our sights because he has a world title that interests us most, although there has been no negotiations as previously stated."
Roman said that one of the possible venues for his return could be is Las Vegas, although if a fight is finalized against a Mexican opponent then it might be in Los Angeles.
Gonzalez had one of his more tougher opponents in April against McWilliams Arroyo. The fight went to a twelve round decision with Arroyo putting in a solid effort in the bout. It was the first fight for Gonzalez to go the distance since the fire-fight with Juan Francisco Estrada in 2012. Following that fight, Gonzalez stopped his next ten opponents inside of nine rounds.
