Being one of the leading figures in boxing, Nicaraguan triple world champion Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez have traveled over to Las Vegas, Nevada to witness the fight between Timothy Bradley and Brandon Rios at the Thomas & Mack Center.
Gonzalez will be there to support his stablemate, Olympic gold medal winner Ryoto Murata, who makes his American debut on the undercard. Their mutual promoter is Akihiko Honda of Teiken Promotions.
"His international promoter, Akihiko Honda, sent brought him to that card becausee another fighter from the stable of the Japanese promoter is appearing on that show," said Gonzalez's coach Arnulfo Obando.
"I'll wait for Roman to get back and then we'll discuss for when we should set the exact date to start training."
After meeting at the 53rd Annual Convention of the World Boxing Council (WBC), it was ruled that "Chocolatito" (44-0, 38 KOs) has a new mandatory challenger in undefeated Thai contender Nawaphon Por Chokchai (30-0, 23 KOs).
"At the moment we have not discussed that fight with Roman because he is traveling, but he is the mandatory and that defense could happen in February or March of next year. And regarding the potential names [of who Roman could face], I have not heard anything, but I will certainly see what kind of fighter he could face," said Obando.
