Nicaraguan Roman "Chocolatito" González (44-0, 38KOs) is ready to face all comers in his next defense of the WBC flyweight championship - and that includes a unification with WBA/WBO champion Juan Francisco "Gallo" Estrada (33-2, 24KOs).
Gonzalez won a twelve round decision over Estrada when both were junior flyweights in 2012. Estrada has won seven fights since and he looked sensational in doing so.
Following the loss to Gonzalez, he moved up in weight and won a twelve round split decision over Brian Viloria to capture the WBO/WBA titles. Gonzalez battered Viloria over nine rounds this past Saturday night at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Gonzalez felt he did very well with Viloria.
"I think I lost the first and seventh round, when he hit me hard with a hook that hurt me a lot," Gonzalez. "The truth is that all the punches hurt, but my preparation helped me take the fight. I had the ability to withstand the punches, and we knew how to dodge his famous hooks well during the development of the fight."
Gonzalez admits that Estrada has been the toughest opponent of his entire career, but also says he wasn't properly conditioned for the fight.
"I think the toughest opponent of my career is Francisco "Gallo" Estrada. For that fight I did not bring enough physical condition and I think that's why I had problems. Akira Yaegashi [was another tough opponent], I also felt his punch," Gonzalez said.
If an when and Estrada rematch takes place, Gonzalez wants to be properly compensated for what many view as the biggest fight in the lower weight divisions, which is also a three belt unification. Gonzalez, according to the New York Commission, received $250,000 for Viloria, but that amount may not have included other financial revenue streams.
"I came here [to fight Viloria] because I got paid really well. But if I'm not going to get paid what I want, I'm not going to fight with Gallo and it's that simple," Gonzalez said.
"You already know [how much I would want]. A million or two million dollars. It's worth it based on where I am. Thank God I'm at a level where I thought I'd get to. I feel motivated. I'll rest for the rest of this year and I'm happy for everything that has happened."
