WBA junior flyweight champion Roman Gonzalez (33-0, 28KOs) secured a questionable third round stoppage over previously unbeaten prospect Stiven Monterrosa (9-1-2, 8KOs) at the Hotel Holiday Inn in Managua, Nicaragua. The fight was a non-title battle at the agreed upon limit of 112-pounds.
Gonzalez was winning the first two rounds without much of a problem and two knockdowns were in the books. During the third round, Gonzalez was coming in for a combination and he landed a punch that was neither flush or came close to hurting the opponent, but the referee just stepped in and waved off the contest without any explanation. Monterrosa was shrugging his shoulders and trying to get answers from officials at ringside on why the referee stopped the match.
