WBC flyweight champion Roman Gonzalez (41-0, 35KOs) received words of motivation from the recognized pound-for-pound king of boxing, WBC/WBA welterweight and junior middleweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr.
The two boxers rubbed shoulders during the World Boxing Council's recent convention at the Mirage Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. Both champions were honored by the sanctioning body. Gonzalez, now a three division world champion at 27-years-old, wants to move up to super flyweight to pursue a fourth title in 2015.
"I spoke a little bit with Floyd. He said people had spoken highly of me to him," Gonzalez said. "I talked to several boxers like Oscar De La Hoya, Julio Cesar Chavez, Ricardo 'Finito' Lopez, among others. They said I was a great champion. I am proud [of what they said to me, because] that motivates me to keep going."
