There are several candidates for the upcoming return of triple world champion Roman "Chocolatito" González, who plans to defend his World Boxing Council (WBC) flyweight title in the fall.
Two names appear on the agenda, Giovanni Segura of Mexico and Brian Viloria of the Philippines/Hawaii. A few days ago, promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank expressed his desire to have Gonzalez go against Viloria on the undercard of a pay-per-view to be organized in Mexico on September 28.
After Arum's proposal, the opportunity to see Roman against Viloria began to take hold. Everything will be depend on Arum being able to convince Mr. Akihiko Honda of Teiken Promotions, who handles the fighter from Nicaragua. Gonzalez and his team are also not interested in making any move that harms their relationship with HBO, who are looking to put Gonzalez back on the network in late August or early September.
"I still can not confirm anything. They may have selected Brian Viloria, but we have not signed anything. Unlike what Bob Arum said, in the event that we fight in the United States it would be on HBO," said Carlos Blandon, adviser to Gonzalez.
"So until we get approached with a proposal, we will continue to analyze the situation. What we do know is that if we fight in the United States it will be on HBO. Teiken has not told us anything."
"Promoter Arum wants us to face Viloria, but this is not the only fighter with which we can fight."
