The World Boxing Council flyweight champion, Nicaraguan Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez, who's regarded as one of the best pound for pound boxers in the world, has been elected as Athlete of the year by the Sports Journalists Association of Nicaragua

Gonzalez, 28-years-old, was elected unanimously for the second time in a row by the Nicaraguan Jornalists.

“It is another blessing  in my life, and a motivation to keep doing my job as best I can,” Gonzalez commented to the journalists  after being notified of the result.

The boxer won all three of his fights this year. He's only the second three time world champion from Nicaragua, following on from the legendary Alexis Arguello.

The champion defended his WBC 112-pounds title defeating the tough Hawaiian Brian Viloria, by kncokout, on October 17 at Madison Square Garden in New York.

He was also chosen Athlete of the Year  in 2014, and has built a fantastic undefeated record of  44 victories with  38 KO´s. Gonzalez is expected to fight again in early 2016.
