WORLD rated Rolly “Matsushita” Lunas of the Philippines will put his Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) bantamweight title for the third time on January 27 at Ishikawa Sangyo Hall in Kanazawa, Ishikawa, Japan.

The Japan-based Lunas, who honed his skills in Manila, told BoxingScene.com yesterday that he will take on Thai bantamweight champion Kaona Klongpajol, who is ranked No. 5 by the OPBF.

The 24-year old native of Albay successfully defended his title both times by technical knockout in the late rounds.

Lunas beat another Thai, Samingnum Wor Wiwatananon in the 11th round in April and stopped Japanese champion and mandatory challenger Masayuki Mitani in the final round in August after he dethroned compatriot Malcolm Tunacao with technical decision in the 10th round in January.

Lunas will climb in the ring being ranked No. 6 by the World Boxing Council and No. 8 by the World Boxing Association. He has a record of 23-6-1, 13 KOs.

Klongpajol has 10 loses in 16 fights. He captured the Thai national title when he stopped the Japanese national and former Thai flyweight titlist Chikara Hashimoto in the first round last June in Bangkok.
