Roger Mayweather, the trainer and uncle of Floyd Mayweather Jr., gives welterweight Andre Berto no shot to avenge his recent loss to Victor Ortiz. The two welterweights traded knockdowns, but Ortiz, who moved up in weight to take the fight - was the bigger and stronger man and his sheer will pushed him through to a twelve round win to capture Berto's WBC title. Mayweather was impressed with Ortiz's performance and doesn't believe Berto wants any part of Ortiz.
"That guy can fight a little bit. He's got good skills, Victor Ortiz. He's a good fighter. Berto may bounce back [from the loss] but he won't bounce back with that guy. He ain't gonna fight that guy no more. Berto don't want any part of that guy. He's a good puncher. Even though they both dropped each other, Berto was hurt a lot worse [than Ortiz]. That's why Berto don't want that fight no more," Mayweather told OnTheGrind Boxing Radio.
Roger also denied widespread rumors that his nephew, Floyd Jr., was sitting at ringside for that fight in order to get a closer look at Berto for a possible fall clash.
"He wasn't there to look at no Berto. [Promoter] Don King invited him down to watch the fight," Mayweather said.
