Merida, Yucatan - With a barrage of powerful punches, Rogelio Medina scored a stoppage win over José ¨Barretas¨Pinzón at 2:50 of the first round of their middleweigt battle. Medina (27-2, 21 KOs) was throwing bombs at Pinzon (21-3, 12 KOs) from the very start. Pinzon was hurt and his legs were unsteady, but he was defending himself when the referee waved it off.
"Medina caught me cold and I could not recover, perhaps a little more time and in the second round I would have recovered, but the réferee stopped the fight and I respect that. I feel sad that I lost before my people of Merida, but I am young and I will return and I want a rematch," Medina said.
In a competitive fight, local boxer Silverio Ortiz (24-13, KOs) defeated Mahonry Montes (26-1-1, 20 KOs). The fight was fought on even terms, but Ortiz took the fight to Montes with body shots. In the third round, Montes suffered a bad but on his left eyebrow and the fight was stopped.
