Daniel Calzada is the epitome of the term ‘Road Warrior’. He fights anyone anyplace anytime on any notice. The man does not turn down fights, period. He had an incredible run in 2013 which saw him in the ring on 7 occasions. He slowed down a bit in 2014 having 4 fights. He proved his previous win over Alfred Romero was no fluke as he won again in February. He then lost a decision to Manuel Perez in a very good fight. Next he hit the road to face TMT fighter Ashley ‘Treasure’ Theophane on the Love-Medina undercard in Las Vegas. He finished the year in nearby Nebraska, fighting yet another undefeated Top Rank prospect in Alex Saucedo, 15-0, 11KOs. Saucedo busted Calzada up but the Balls of Steel Warrior refused to go away and stayed in the fight the full six rounds. Calzada is as tough as they come and these guys truly are the lifeblood of the sport.
I would love to see Calzada in with Manuel Lopez or even Emilio Hernandez this year. Both good fights.
ROAD WARRIOR OF THE YEAR: Daniel Calzada:
By Stephen ‘Darkness’ Johnson
Unafraid to ‘take his show on the road’, Calzada traveled to Las Vegas in August taking on veteran Ashley Theopane (37-6-1, 11 KO’s) and Omaha, Nebraska, in November tangling with undefeated highly regarded prospect Alex Saucedo (16-0, 11 KO’s) with a total of 4 fights in 2014.
Road Warrior: Calzada & Romero
By Leann Perez
Good toss up between the ultimate road warrior in Daniel Calzada but can also be given to Alfred Romero. Romero took his first fight on the road and faced Olympian Jose Ramirez. He gave Ramirez more than he bargained for, taking the prospect the distance in his first 8 rounder.
Road Warrior of the year: Chantel Cordova
By Eric Duran
“Gorgeous Babe” went 1-1 on the road, picking up the NABF Super Flyweight title along the way. Although she dropped a decision to Noemi Bosques recently, Cordova continues to make Colorado proud. She vows that 2015 will a better year than 2014, continuing to train and accomplish championship level goals
