Robbery of the Year: Cordova Majority Draw Salas
By Eric 'Sugar Foot' Duran
Talk about an early Christmas gift, the hometown judges cooked up a nasty stew of stinky robbery. Salas brought the fight to Cordova, out hustling her in all facets of the fight. It was one of the easiest fights of the year to score yet two of the three judges got it wrong. Morris stood next to me and scored it wide for Salas as well.
“Rocky Mountain Boxing scores the bout one sided at 79-73 for Salas. Judge Steve Waldman also scores it for Salas at 77-75, but is overruled by Tyrone Short and Stephen Blea who have it even at 76-76. Cordova retains the title.”
Robbery of the Year: Holguin Majority Draw Titsworth
By Chris Morris
This one got me a bit heated. I thought that Trenton Titsworth did more than enough to earn the victory over Cesar Holguin. He was brought in as the ‘sacrificial lamb’ for Holguin to gain a win. Titsworth came to fight and used his height and reach almost perfectly, in my eyes. I had Titsworth winning 4 of the 6 rounds, easily. Now having said that, many others ringside, including Eric Duran, called my scorecard crazy. And maybe it is out of line. Maybe I like to pull for the underdog. The fight was scored a majority draw with judges Jeanne McEvoy and Tyrone Short seeing it even at 57-57. Curtis Thrasher, whom I respect greatly, saw it 59-55 for Holguin, which in my opinion was WAY out of line. Always remember, it’s simply one man’s opinion, nothing more or less so take it for what it’s worth.
Robbery of the year: Estrella over Connley
by Leann Perez
Not a lot of fights came to mind when this category came up, except for the match up between Estrella and Connley at the Crowne Plaza. Connley seemed to give Estrella a difficult time and it even caused some of Estella’s family to yell and curse in frustration. Although I was not able to watch the end of the fight, when Estrella’s hand was raised for victory loud boos from everyone overpowered the announcer.
**Editor’s note. This was a forced pick as Leann didn’t remember any fight as being a ‘Robbery’. I asked her to please pick something to fill the category. Which is unfair, as I did NOT force Stephen ‘Darkness’ Johnson into a pick.
