In conjunction with the CGGC (Colorado Golden Gloves Charities) continued their mission of ‘Big champions helping little champions’ with Gabriel Santistevanand Deidre Vickers-Strauch a 2014 focus.
Gabriel is just 10 years-old and suffers from a rare brain cancer while soon to turn 34 years-old Deidre is a mother of two suffering from rectal cancer.
These two personify everything associated with the word‘FIGHT’ and along with the WBC Cares Colorado and CGGC, we salute their courage in facing what is truly the fight of/for their lives.

Humanitarian/Feel Good Story: Stephen Blea and WBC Cares
We decided to combine a couple related categories with Inspirational Story of the Year and Humanitarian of the Year.
Stephen & Raylene Blea with WBC Cares Program touched so many lives in Colorado in 2014. From helping Gabe Santistevan in his battle against brain cancer to Diedre Vickers-Strauch and her cancer fight and Coco Sanchez had heart surgery.
Then there was Deanna Gallegos who was failing out of school. Blea reached out with the help of Roosevelt Parker and his company Cooly High Inc. to try to turn her around. She went from flunking to flying as she cleaned up all of her grades and bad habits. All she needed was a push in the right direction and Stephen Blea and the WBC Cares program stepped up to the plate.
Blea gives and gives and gives one of the most selfless people you could ever meet. He is a great asset to the Colorado boxing scene as well as the community.
Vickers Stauch and Gabe Santistevan. This story is one close to Stephen Johnson’s heart so he is handling the commentary on this category.
