The former 130-pound champion of the WBO Roman 'Rocky' Martinez (27-2-2, 16 KO's) could be reappearing in December on route to a title shot at lightweight in 2015 as announced by coach Papo Torres, who admitted he has heard rumors of a possible brawl in the first quarter with Orlando Salido, the current junior lightweight champion of the WBO.
Martinez was providing some sparring help to Jose "Sniper" Pedraza, who on November 14 faces Filipino Michael Farenas in a final eliminator for the number one 130-pound position under the IBF.
"That's the rumor I've heard, but there is nothing concrete on that. Rocky would have to squeeze down to 130. He was sparring with Pedraza. He was helping him for that fight. And it is assumed that before the end of the year we do a fight at 136. The goal is that in the 2015 [we move forward at] lightweight. The Salido [fight] is rumors. It would have to be a big money deal for us to make the effort [to get down in weight]," the trainer said.
