Former two-time super featherweight champion Roman "Rocky" Martinez (27-2-2, 16KOs) is looking to move up to the lightweight division, after suffering an eight round knockout loss to Mikey Garcia on Saturday night in Corpus Christi, Texas. Martinez has been at 130-pounds for most of his career. He would like to fight for another title as soon as possible and wants to return in the early part of 2014.
"I really wanted to return to Puerto Rico with the championship and I gave it 100 percent. No excuses. Mikey was better that night. I must say that Mikey is a big puncher. He is smart with his punches. He finds his spots. I invited him to fight, but he remained calm and worked his plan. He will be a champion at 130-pounds for a long time. There is interest to get some good fights at 135 and I would fight any of the champions. Perhaps I will take a fight in March or April at 135 and then search for a title fight. I am 30-years-old and I believe that I will feel stronger up there. I can make 130- pounds, but I have to protect my health," said Martinez to Raul Alzaga.
