Robin Krasniqi pciked up his fourth straight win, outpointing Poland's Dariusz Sek over 12 rounds Saturday evening at Ballhaus Forum in Munich, Germany.
Scores were 116-112 (twice) and 115-113 in a closely-contested war that was fought at a phone booth's distance all night.
All the credit in the world goes to Sek for forcing a fast and furious pace from the opening bell. The visiting light heavyweight made it a point to stay in Krasniqi's face all night, forcing the local favorite to dig deep and truly fight his way to victory.
Krasniqi proved resourceful enough to survive the best his opponent had to offer, and also find the necessary space to turn the fight into a boxing match when the moment proved appropriate. The ability to switch between boxing and banging was enough to remain ahead on the cards for much of the contest.
Sek enjoyed a late surge, repeatedly forcing Krasniqi to the ropes during the championship rounds. The last-ditch effort to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat was valiant but ultimately an exercise in futility as he could fare no better than five rounds on any of the three official scorecards.
The win runs Krasniqi's record to 43-3 (16KOs), with his lone loss over the past nine years coming in a failed title bid versus then-unbeaten light heavyweight beltholder Nathan Cleverly. The slew of regional titles in his possession puts the 27-year old in the hunt for an eventual crack at unified light heavyweight titlist Sergey Kovalev - who dethroned Cleverly last August - but it's currently a long line for that opportunity to ever come to fruition.
Sek snaps a two-fight win streak as he falls to 21-2-1 (7KOs). Both career losses for the Polish light heavyweight have come on the road in Germany, dropping a 12-round decision to then-unbeaten prospect Robert Woge last August.
The bout headlined a full card which aired live on PolSat Sport in Poland.
