Undefeated Mexican junior welterweight prospect Roberto “Massa” Ortiz is biding his time for a big fight, while continuing to learn and ply his craft, reeling off win after win.
The 25-year-old resident of Torreon, Coahuila de Zaragoza is 24-0-1 with 18 KOs.
Ortiz plans to return October 1, possibly in Mexico City, as he prepares to step up the competition next year in the loaded junior welterweight class.
“I want to fight the best … I know i can do it, I just need some more experience, “ Ortiz said. “I have everything else, and I fight like a Mexican with my heart.”
“Massa” is coming of his career best victory, a fourth round TKO over fellow undefeated Mexican (at the time) Antonio Lozada Jr. Ortiz went down in the third, but put his foe on the canvas in each round, finishing him off in the fourth.
“The plan is for me to fight three more times this year and then look for the big opportunities next year, the absolute best,” said Ortiz. “I would move down to 135 for a big opportunity.”
When asked about a fight with Mexican Antonio DeMarco, Ortiz remarked “that would be a strong fight because he Is taller than me, but we are working very hard to prepare for the very best fighters.”
And as all other great Mexican fighters, Ortiz plans to fight stateside, hoping to make his debut in the U.S. in 2012.
“I would love to fight in the States, hopefully next year,” said Ortiz, who is yet to fight outside of Mexico. “I would like to build my career in the States.
