Cancun Boxing's Pepe Gomez and Guillermo Rocha presented a night of boxing at the Auditorium "Andrés Quintana Roo" in Cancun, Quintana Roo, Mexico.
In the main attraction, former World Boxing Council silver junior welterweight champion Roberto "Massa" Ortiz (33-1-1, 25 KOs) stopped Nestor "Spark" Garcia (21-10, 17 KOs) in the ninth round of their battle that was scheduled for ten.
It was the second win for Ortiz since getting stopped in two rounds last September by Argentinian puncher Lucas Matthysse.
Ortiz was trained for this fight by veteran coach Joel Diaz.
Ortiz was landing hard punches to the head and body for most of the contest. Garcia was breaking down, round by round, as the punishment continued without any break in the action.
The end finally came at 1:12 of the ninth, when Garcia was very hurt from a hard hook to the body and referee Florentino Lopez decided that he could not continue and decided to stop the fight.
Ortiz had been in action in April, winning a ten round unanimous decision over Juan Jesus Rivera.
