Junior welterweight Roberto ‘Massa’ Ortiz will fight on March 18, Golden Boy Promotions matchmaker Robert Diaz told BoxingScene.com over the weekend.
Ortiz will fight in a 10 round bout in Cancun, Quintana Roo, Mexico on a fight card that will be co-promoted between Golden Boy and Cancun Boxing.
An opponent will likely be secured very soon, according to Diaz.
In his last bout on November 27, Ortiz (33-1, 26 KOs) stopped Nestor Fernando Garcia in the ninth round. The fighter from Torreon, Coahuila, Mexico has won his last two bouts since being stopped in the second round by Lucas Matthysse in September of 2014.
Ortiz is currently training in Indio, Calif. with trainer Joel Diaz.
Robert Diaz confirmed to BoxingScene.com that networks have been contacted in hopes the fight card will be broadcast to the United States.
Also scheduled for Cancun is a showdown between heavyweights Martha Salazar (13-4, 3 KOs), who is 46 years old, and Alejandra Jimenez (5-0, 4 KOs). Both will be fighting for the WBC World female heavyweight title.
