A victory is all that matters for Robert Helenius (12-0, 7 KOs) when he takes on Gregory Tony (12-0, 10 KOs) for the vacant EU Heavyweight Title in Erfurt on August 21. The “Nordic Nightmare” sent shockwaves through the international boxing world when he stopped former WBO Heavyweight Champion Lamon Brewster in what was just his 11th fight. After injuring his hand during a points victory over Gbenga Oloukun in Helsinki in March, Helenius is now ready to continue his rise to stardom. “I can´t wait to get back in the ring,” the 26-year-old said from his training camp base in Kienbaum, some 20 miles east of Berlin. “Ulli Wegner keeps teaching me new things every day and I am keen to show them against Tony. I am hungry to win my first title.”
Helenius is working out with the likes of WBO Cruiserweight Champion Marco Huck, whose title defence against Matt Godfrey headlines the show on August 21, Super Six World Boxing Classic star King Arthur Abraham, middleweight talent Dominik Britsch and cruiserweight hopeful Yoan Pablo Hernandez. “I am pleased with Robert´s development,” said Wegner. “We have put on some exhausting sparring sessions in the last weeks but as always Robert has done extremely well. We can expect a good fight from him in Erfurt.”
Added Helenius: “The victory over Brewster gave me a big lift. It was my biggest victory thus far but I am determined to clinch many more. I will continue where I left it against Brewster.”
