We recently welcomed three division world champion Robert "The Ghost" Guerrero to The Boxing Lab, BoxingScene.com's official audio show. Guerrero had a shoulder injury this summer that forced him to pull out of a showdown versus Marcos Maidana. The injury required subsequent surgery. Guerrero said that his rehabilitation is going well and that on January 1st he will be able to go full bore in training.
"The shoulder feels great. On January 1st I am going to go full blast with my training," said Guerrero.
The Gilroy, California native has appeared on BoxingScene.com numerous times over the past few weeks, as he continues to bait pound for pound champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. into a fight. Mayweather has May 5th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas reserved for his next outing. Guerrero feels that he has the talent and the style to beat the outspoken Mayweather. He also told the The Boxing Lab that Mayweather is insecure and that is part of the reason why he has adopted a bad boy persona.
"Floyd is an insecure person. He is more insecure than people think," stated Guerrero. "He is like that girlfriend we all had. You know, the one who says, 'Am I pretty? Do I look pretty? Do I look pretty to you? He is like that insecure girlfriend out there," explained Guerrero.
According to Guerrero, Mayweather's insecurities are the reason why he makes frequent mentions of his undefeated record.
"Floyd says 'I am 42-0. I'm the best. I'm the best. I'm undefeated. No one can beat me.' To me that shows he is insecure with all that talking," said Guerrero.
While Guerrero is confident that he will secure a mega-fight with Mayweather, he revealed that he will be ready to return to the ring in the next few months. He also told The Boxing Lab that Manny Pacquiao's narrow wins over Juan Manuel Marquez prove that Mayweather is the true pound for pound king.
"God willing, I will fight Floyd on May 5th but if I don't I will fight someone else. I will be ready to return to the ring at the end of February or in March. If I have to go to Floyd's door step and call him out I will do it," said Guerrero. "To me Manny Pacquiao lost to Marquez in their last two fights so Floyd Mayweather is the best pound for pound fighter out there. I want to fight the best guys out there and Floyd is the best," Guerrero explained.
