Trainer Robert Garcia has revealed that former middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (46-1-1, 32KOs) did approach him about the possibility of working together in the future. Chavez will face Brian Vera (23-6, 14KOs) in a super middleweight fight on September 28th at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.
Garcia recently started working with Alex Ariza, the strength and conditioning coach of Chavez. Ariza is helping prepare Robert's fighters Brandon Rios and Mikey Garcia.
"I've already spoken to Julio on a few occasions, and he told me that he wanted to train with me. [In the upcoming fight] he has to look good, and I'll be there to support him. He has the potential to be one of the best [fighters] from Mexico from the last few years," Garcia said.
