A press conference to promote the March 16th Errol Spence versus Mikey Garcia FOX pay-per-view event was held at Cowboy's Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The venue will also host the fight which will be FOX's first foray in the pay-per-view business.
The venue, which is home to the NFL's Dallas Cowboys, has hosted three major boxing cards in the past. The first two cards took place in 2010 when Manny Pacquiao defeated both Joshua Clottey and Antonio Margarito via unanimous decision with over 40,000 fans in attendance for each fight.
In unanimous decision victory over Antonio Margarito in 2010 when over 41,000 fans packed the stadium. Canelo Alvarez knocked out Liam Smith in 2016 with over 50,000 fans in attendance.
While Spence and Garcia aren't as well known as Manny Pacquiao or Canelo Alvarez, another big crowd is expected for their showdown.
Garcia's older brother and trainer expects the crowd support to be fairly even for both fighters. Spence is the local fighter, having grown up in nearby Desoto while Garcia, a Mexican-American, has fought in the Lone Star state on multiple occasions and should also have significant crowd support.
"I know (Spence) is going to have a lot of fans. I saw his fight in June (versus Carlos Ocampo in Frisco, Texas) and close to 15,000 people were there just for him because his opponent wasn't a big name. So everybody was there for him so I expect a big crowd," Robert stated.
"Here in Texas we have a lot of Hispanic boxing fans and I know they are going to be there for Mikey. I expect a 50-50 crowd where at moments people will be screaming out Spence's name then a few seconds later, 'Mikey', going back and forth. That makes the better fights because the crowd is going back and forth. I think it is going to be awesome."
