Rob McCracken, GB Boxing's Performance Director and Head Coach, has been nominated for a High Performance Coach of the Year award by sports coach UK.

The nomination follows a highly successful year for GB Boxing. The squads' achievements this year include two gold and four silver medals at the Commonwealth Games, three silver and two bronze medals at the European Championships and two silver medals at the Women's World Championships.

Derek Mapp, Executive Chairman of BABA, said: “The appointment of Rob McCracken as Performance Director has been pivotal to the sport’s performance. Under Rob’s leadership the male and female squads have moved on to a new level and a combined total of 32 medals in seven elite international competitions in 2010 is testament to the energy and hard work of Rob and his team of coaches.

"The atmosphere around GB Boxing as we approach London 2012 is electric, but there is also a real sense of focus and determination. Rob's professionalism has helped transform the squad and he thoroughly merits this award."

Khalid Yafai, who won a silver medal in the European Championships in June, told BBC Sport in June: "Once Rob took over everything changed for the better,"

"He's so professional in what he does, so calm and experienced and he's turned us into professional athletes.

"His expectations are so high for us - the fact he expected a gold medal from me in Moscow tells me he thinks I'm the best fighter in the world and once you get medals like these, you believe it."

Featherweight Iain Weaver, who also won silver in Moscow, said: "When we go to the gym we all want to train, we all give our all. We have a laugh, we have a crack but when it's time to get down to business we get down and train hard - and that's all down to Rob."

The awards will be presented at The Brewery in London on Tuesday 30th November.
