Fresno - Contender Rob "Red Hot" Frankel of Denver says he is the "better fighter." Frankel's manager/trainer Steve Mestas says "Bob Arum may not like what he will see on Saturday night."
Frankel is in town taking on hometown USA Olympian Jose Ramirez of Avenal, Ca. before an expected crowd of 10,000 at the Selland Arena. Frankel describes Ramirez, trained by Freddie Roach, as a fighter who has "good hand speed, a good left hook and is a decent fighter."
"It's just that I am a 12-round level fighter and he isn't," said Frankel, 33-15-1 with 6 KOs. Ramirez, a 2012 USA Olympian, is 13-0 with 10 KOs.
The main event is scheduled for eight rounds in the super lightweight division and will be televised by Top Rank's Solo Boxeo Tecate on UniMas. Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum will be at ringside here Saturday night.
Frankel trains at the 'House of Pain Gym' in Denver. Mestas said Frankel never had an amateur bout. "Rob went right to professional boxing from day one," he said.
Ramirez has trained for weeks at Freddie Roach's Wild Card Gym in Hollywood, California. He said he would "fight my best" and he thanked Frankel for coming into Fresno for the fight. The two posed for photographs at the press conference.
