Super middleweight contender Roamer Angulo of Colombia scored another win late Saturday night, knocking out Evert Bravo in an all-Colombia clash at the Polyforum Zam Na in Merida, Yucatan, Mexico.
Angulo dropped Bravo (24-8-1, 18 knockouts) with a right cross to the head. Referee Miguel Canul counted Bravo out at 2:02 of the opening round.
With the victory, Angulo (23-0, 20 KOs) successfully defended his regional title belt.
Angulo, who has now knocked out his last fine opponents and six of his last seven, is ranked number seven by the WBO and number 14 by the IBF.
In the main event, fringe middleweight contender Elias Espadas thrilled the hometown fans, stopping Felipe Santos Pedroso of Brazil in the third round.
Espadas (17-3, 12 KOs) was the superior boxer, outboxing and outlanding combinations to the head and body. In the third round, Espadas trapped Santos Pedroso (15-4, 13 KOs) in a corner, unleashing a barrage of punches, finishing with a left hook to the body that dropped the fighter from Brazil to the canvas.
Referee Miguel Canul counted Santos Pedroso out.
"It seemed easy, but it was not," said Espadas, who has now won his last seven bouts, six by knockout. "I was sitting on a barrel of gunpowder. My opponent hits very, very hard. The few times he connected me, I felt his punch and (it) hurt me, but I tried not to show. With the preparation I brought, I decided to finish it as soon as possible to avoid (anymore) problems."
Heavyweight Tyrone Spong remained unbeaten, stopping Carlos Nascimiento (16-6, 12 KOs) at 1:53 of the fifth round. Spong improves to 11-0, 11 KOs.
Fringe featherweight contender Ruben Garcia (23-3-1, 10 KOs) dropped Julio Cruz (11-5, 6 KOs) twice en route to a second round knockout victory. Time of the stoppage was 2:38.
