The first steps of HBO's marketing rollout have been announced for the Octobet 17 middleweight unification clash between Gennady Golovkin and David Lemieux. Their upcoming clash headlines live at Madison Square Garden in New York City, airing live on HBO Pay-Per-View.
Pre-fight coverage of the event includes the return of its 'Road To..." series.
'Road to Golovkin/Lemieux'
will make its network premier on Saturday, October 3 at 12:15 a.m. ET/PT (technically Sunday Oct. 4, but considered Saturday in terms of ratings). The 15-minute documentary-style segment immediately follows a mouthwatering 140 lb. title clash between Lucas Matthysse and Viktor Postol, which headlines a live HBO Boxing After Dark telecast from StubHub Center in Carson, California.
The unification bout marks the first PPV main event for both fighters
“Pay-Per-View to me means reaching the highest level in the sport,” said Golovkin (33-0, 30KOs), who has held at least one title since 2010 and will be making his 15th defense. “This has given me the opportunity for my first title unification fight. All the big names in boxing have fought on Pay-Per-View and I look forward to making my first Pay-Per-View on October 17 against champion David Lemieux.”
Future playdates are as follows (all times ET/PT):
The special will also be available on the HBO On Demand® service, HBO NOW, HBO GO® and at www.hbo.com/boxing as well as various other new media platforms that distribute the series.
